Description
Critiques of the Sundance Film Festival today include concerns over its over commercialism; people now feel as though the film festival pritoritizes being a marketplace rather than as a place that focuses on art and storytelling. The festival’s elitist atmosphere and emphasis on aquisitions have been criticized for potentially alienating emerging talents and detracting from artistic merit.

The rebrand of Sundance Film Festival brings us back to celebrating independent films and filmmakers that bring unique perspectives to the table.  Sundance Festival embodies the brand’s commitment to fostering creativity.
Background

The Sundance Film Festival is an annual event currently located in Park City Utah that features a variety of curated documentary features, short films, and episodic content from emerging filmmakers. Started in 1981, Robert Redford founded the Sundance Institute as a way to nurture and showcase talented filmmakers. In addition to the Film Festival, the Institute hosts event programs around the US in order to support emerging talent in film.

LogoInspired by the creativity of artists, the redesigned logo represents the fun nature and celebratory atmosphere of Sundance Festival. Using PP Formula as a base typeface, the letterforms have the ability to stretch and distort in a variety of ways while maintaining legibility. The logo functions as a framing device for content below it.
